Twitter to crawl links

May 7th, 2009

Twitter is going to start crawling the links posted in tweets and index that content for it’s search tool.

There’s so much duplication of content on Twitter that naturally the most discussed topics rise to the top. And fast. I don’t always want to *search* for news, hot topics, etc. I’m lazy. Send it to me based on some category preferences I set and let me filter through the stuff based on what catches my eye.

I wonder how this will change the future of traditional folksonomy tools such as Digg. Will bookmarking be replaced with “tweetmarking” … maybe “tweetflagging”? Whatever name you give it, this is a big story IMHO.

A sad sight today

March 3rd, 2009

I was walking down Market St. in San Francisco and was saddened to see that staceysbookstoreStaceys bookstore was having a closing sale. Empty shelves. Sad (soon to be let go) employees.

Walk along that same block. Not but a couple hundred yards away, McDonalds thrives. Three lines full of people. Waiting to eat synthetic food.

Support Texas Film – a note from Marco Perella

February 27th, 2009

State Capital

“HISTORY IS MADE BY THOSE WHO SHOW UP”

Dear Friends and Colleagues:

On Wednesday March 4th there will be a rally at the State Capitol of Texas to support a bill for the film industry of Texas.

If you seriously want to work in the film and TV industry this is the most important thing you can do for your career. Let me tell you why.

Our neighboring states New Mexico and Louisiana have built up a billion dollar a year industry in just a few years with film incentives. Texas, without a competitive program, has lost most of our film business. We are losing our crews to out of state jobs and our film infrastructure is crumbling through lack of business.

All of this will change overnight with passage of the bill now before the Legislature. Read on …

Rainy day view from my perch at the Royal Grounds cafe on Polk street. Great day to sit in a cafe and geek out on the Web.

I feel afraid and I don’t know why I do …

June 17th, 2008

Why does cognition constantly get in the way of our desired outcomes?

I often stand in the middle of two decisions, one easy and one difficult, and I use memory, perception, and desire to inform my action. But I don’t always act OR I only act based on a skewed weighting system (i.e. perception being a bigger factor than desire for a certain outcome).

OK – now in plain english – it’s time to make solid decisions and stick with them. No more wavering. No more fear of the unknown. No more skewed perception. Nike had it right – just do it. I’m not the type to put a lot of stock into corporate slogans but in this case it fits.
